Sarah Jane Cavanaugh was sentenced to six years in federal prison after misrepresenting herself as being a former Marine.

A Rhode Island woman is paying the price for stolen valor.

Federal prosecutors announced that Sarah Jane Cavanaugh was sentenced to almost six years in federal prison in a Tuesday news release.

Cavanaugh was convicted of creating an elaborate fraud scheme in which she misrepresented herself as a U.S. Marine.

Cavanaugh never actually served in the military. She was employed by the Rhode Island Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a position which provided her access to information useful in stealing the identities of real veterans.

The fake Marine used her faux military affiliation to fund-raise $250,000 in cancer-related medical expenses — falsely claiming to have incurred the disease.

Cavanaugh used the stolen personal information of a Navy veteran who actually had cancer to advance her scheme, according to Task & Purpose.

The fraudster claimed to have been awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star in her Marine Corps career, suffering injuries from an IED in Iraq.

Cavanaugh’s fraud was so successful that she even obtained a position as commander of a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Cavanaugh’s scheme began to unravel when the military charity HunterSeven announced it had been unable to find any records of her military service, according to Task & Purpose.

A retired Marine officer also noticed that Cavanaugh had claimed to be both a staff sergeant and corporal at the time of her discharge in different accounts.

The fraudster plead guilty to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, forged military discharge certificate, and fraudulent use of military medals charges in August.

A Boston-area FBI agent pointed to Cavanaugh’s scheme as disgraceful exploitation of military valor and benefits.

“Sarah Cavanagh feigned having cancer, and falsely claimed valor where there was none, to gain hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits and charitable donations,” Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division Joseph R. Bonavolonta said.

“Make no mistake, the FBI and our law enforcement partners are committed to seeking justice for anyone who lies about serving our country and illegally takes money from federal programs that help veterans who rightfully deserve it.”

In addition to her prison sentence, a federal judge ordered Cavanaugh to repay $284,796.82 in restitution to victims of her fraud.

The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 criminalizes falsely claiming military service to obtain money, property, or any other tangible benefit.

This altered image shows a quote from Abraham Lincoln on display at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is changing its mission statement.

The new motto, announced in a Thursday news release, includes a gender-neutral change from the previous mission statement.

The old motto referenced both male and female veterans and featured a direct quote from President Abraham Lincoln:

“To fulfill President Lincoln’s promise ‘to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan’ by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.”

The new mission statement reads as follows:

“To fulfill President Lincoln’s promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors.”

The quote included in the original mission statement — and merely referenced in the new one — is from Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address in 1865, pledging to care for those who served the nation in the Civil War.

According to the news release, “The previous mission statement is posted in roughly 50% of VA’s facilities. Over the coming months, VA’s new mission statement will replace the previous version.”

Should the motto have been changed?

Both male and female veterans have always been eligible for treatment at VA facilities.

In the news release, McDonough said the department wanted to include more people in its mission statement.

“Whenever any veteran, family member, caregiver or survivor walks by a VA facility, we want them to see themselves in the mission statement on the outside of the building,” he said.

“We are here to serve all veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors—and now, our mission statement reflects exactly that.”

The new gender-neutral motto comes as the VA struggles to counteract an epidemic of veteran suicides.

One estimate indicates that as many as 44 veterans commit suicide every day — well more than twice the official VA estimate of 17 veteran suicides a day, according to the Military Times.

The agency has increased eligibility for veterans to receive in-patient mental health treatment.

The NFL is as popular as it has ever been in this country.

In fact, since the calamitous kickoff to the 2020 season (largely related to polarizing social justice initiatives), the league has truly turned things around and now produces some of the most widely viewed programming to appear on American television.

Despite that, the NFL may have a new headache on its hand, as there appears to be a bubbling unpopularity for the sport among a rather important demographic — actual NFL players.

The latest abrupt retirement from the NFL comes courtesy of now-former Los Angeles Chargers safety Nasir Adderley.

The former University of Delaware standout posted the retirement announcement to his Instagram account on Thursday.

A post shared by Nasir Adderley (@nasir_adderley)

“After a period of self reflection, I have decided that it’s time for me to walk away from the game of football,” Adderley wrote.

It’s key to point out that Adderley isn’t a 15-year veteran who’s finally decided to hang up his cleats — he’s a 25-year-old man just about to enter his physical prime (or at least what’s considered the prime of pro athletes.)

“Over the past couple of years I have denied this realization,” Adderley continued. “But, I’m finally going to put myself first for once. My health is above anything and everyone around me knows that.”

Later in the retirement announcement, Adderley made it clear that when he was talking about his “health,” he speaking far more about mental health than physical health.

“My purpose involves spending more time with my loved ones, business ownership and chasing my passion of true liberation,” Adderley said, while also noting that, “I don’t belong an employee.”

“I believe I have yet to scratch the surface of the player I could be, but if it’s at the expense of my peace of mind then it’s no longer for me,” Adderley added.

Adderley, a former second-round NFL draft pick, is the second warm-weather NFL defensive back to retire in as many months — albeit for vastly different reasons.

Fellow recent retiree Byron Jones, 30, the now-former Miami Dolphins cornerback, abruptly called it quits in February due to his numerous injuries mounting up to long-term, chronic pain.

To be clear, this is hardly an existential crisis for the NFL, but it’s hard to deny the number of younger NFL stars retiring early — especially in recent years.

Before Jones and Adderley, one of the most prominent abrupt retirements came from former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who retired in 2019 at the age of 29. As a frame of reference, recently retired superstar quarterback Tom Brady still had 16 seasons of quarterbacking ahead of him when he turned 29.

Former Carolina Panthers superstar linebacker Luke Kuechly gave a heartfelt retirement announcement in 2020 at the tender age of only 28:

Detroit Lions star Calvin “Megatron” Johnson retired at only 30 years of age in 2015, though he has long since confirmed that had as much to do with the woeful Lions as it did with physical ailments.

Again, these aren’t nobodies who are abruptly calling it a career. You could put together a pretty good team with a core of Luck, Johnson, Kuechly and Jones (all in their respective primes.)

As for Adderley, he leaves a Chargers team that will be looking to build on a playoff berth that ended in an agonizing 31-30 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round last year.

While Adderley, by his own admission, never quite reached his potential, he was still a key player for the Chargers, starting 44 games over histhree years in Los Angeles.

Between Adderley’s abrupt retirement and Derwin James Jr.’s perpetual health concerns, the Chargers may very well use the 21st overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft on a safety.

A suspected shoplifter with rotten timing was met by an armed police officer after he allegedly tried to exit an Arizona Walmart with stolen goods.

Phoenix Police are describing an incident in which a 35-year-old man was confronted by a loss prevention employee and a uniformed, off-duty police officer, as the alleged thief sought to exit the business with concealed goods earlier this month.

A suspect police have identified as David Apana produced a weapon as he was confronted — a decision that led to the police officer drawing his own, according to local station KTVK.

WARNING: The following video contains scenes the viewer may find disturbing

One shot fired by the officer drove Apana to flee the scene, with the suspect ultimately exiting the Walmart from a rear door.

Phoenix Police ultimately apprehended the suspect in a neighborhood west of the business.

Police were also able to recover Apana’s firearm.

Apana is facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and armed robbery in connection to the incident.

The suspect can be seen withdrawing a revolver from his belt in the storefront confrontation in surveillance camera footage released after the shooting.

The gunman flees suddenly as the officer draws his own weapon, his intentions for a show of force utterly thwarted.

Some customers who were at the Walmart during the incident are worried about the business’ emergency procedures.

“I’m concerned about their evacuation procedure. It seems like there isn’t any. That’s the only thing I’m concerned about,” Joe Torres said of the Walmart, according to KTVK.

Another shopper expressed fear about the safety of the Walmart.

“It’s going to feel pretty scary to shop here because you don’t know what’s going to happen or who you’re around with,” Veronica Vela said of the business.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Law enforcement agencies are preparing for the possibility of former President Donald Trump’s indictment.

State, local and federal agencies are eyeing security measures in the event of Trump’s indictment, according to five senior officials cited by NBC News on Friday.

The indictment could come as soon as next week.

Trump would be charged with an offense related to alleged improper payments to pornographic performer Stormy Daniels, according to NBC.

The agencies preparing are the NYPD, New York State Court Officers, the U.S. Secret Service, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, according to NBC.

Sources familiar with the deliberation are describing preparations for Trump’s first appearance at the Manhattan Criminal Court, according to Fox News.

The Secret Service and New York law enforcement are working out a process in which Trump will appear at the courthouse, according to Fox.

George Soros-funded Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has previously indicated he’s investigating Trump’s personal finances.

Bragg has reportedly sought a meeting with other law enforcement entities to discuss the logistics of Trump’s court appearance.

Trump — who is actively running for a second, non-consecutive presidential term — has indicated that a criminal indictment won’t affect his intentions to return to the White House.

“I wouldn’t even think about leaving,” the Republican said of the possibility, describing a potential indictment as a partisan attack to neutralize his candidacy, according to The New York Times.

Trump criticized “radical left Democrat prosecutors” in a Wednesday Truth Social message, calling the probes election interference.

Potential charges would represent an escalation of the criminal probes targeting Trump.

Department of Justice officials have thus far declined to charge Trump, even after executing an unprecedented raid of the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence in connection to a document dispute.

No former president has ever been charged or convicted of a crime in American history.

The Irish saved Catholicism from the chaos of the collapse of Roman civilization brought on by the invasion of Europe by barbarian hordes, Father Seán Connolly argued Thursday in the Catholic World Report.

President Joe Biden, who often touts both his Irish heritage and his Catholicism, seems to be spurring another collapse of Western civilization with his outright anti-Catholic views on issues such as abortion and gender ideology.

One Irish writer is fed up with his antics.

“President Joe Biden’s self-delusion seems to be boundless,” journalist and fiction writer Ruth Dudley Edwards, born in Dublin, proclaimed Tuesday in a commentary piece for the U.K.’s Telegraph.

Though the article — headlined “Joe Biden must be the world’s worst Catholic” — was published a few days before St. Patrick’s Day, Edwards clearly had the Irish holiday in mind.

When Biden “looks in the mirror,” she wrote, “he apparently sees an upright Irish Catholic true to the historic values of his deeply rooted religious identity.”

Edwards wasn’t finished — not anywhere near it.

“He is, in fact, an appalling Catholic who publicly flouts the church’s most cherished teachings and is about as authentically Irish as a leprechaun hat in a St Patrick’s Day parade,” she continued.

No one knows what Biden sees in the mirror when he looks at himself, but it almost certainly isn’t reality. Self-reflection isn’t one of his strong suits, judging from his proclivity to spin yarns about his past.

Remember his tale of being in the top half of his law school? In reality, Biden lied about his academic record. He later had to admit that he graduated 76th in a class of 85, as reported by Fox News.

And then there’s the story about Biden being an over-the-road trucker. False.

And then there’s — never mind. If you get started down the road of tracking down Biden’s lies, you’ll find yourself accompanying him on the road to perdition.

Edwards conceded that the U.S. president is “perfectly entitled to believe whatever he wants” — even if he is delusional. She also conceded that many Americans agree with Biden’s views — what this says about their sanity is another topic —  and many of those will also claim to be Catholic.

But that’s not what irks her.

“What sticks in the craw,” Edwards wrote, “is his willingness to use his Irish Catholic identity to burnish his image while seemingly knowing nothing about either.”

For example, she pointed out that Biden “is a warrior for the rights of parents to approve ‘gender-affirming transitional medical care’ for their children,” even though even Pope Francis — who is far too liberal for conservative and traditional Catholics — “rejected the idea of teaching children that ‘everyone can choose their own sex.’”

Edwards wrote that Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Illinois “has reminded his flock that the church ‘teaches that the removal or destruction of healthy sexual and reproductive organs is a type of mutilation and intrinsically evil.’”

“Yet Biden has shown no interest in addressing Catholic teaching,” she said. “He’s focused on placating Democratic progressives by confronting Republican politicians like Texas governor Greg Abbott, whose administration says medical treatment aimed at transitioning children can be a form of child abuse.”

Edwards noted the president also denounced another GOP governor, Florida’s Ron DeSantis, for banning “lessons on gender identity in kindergarten to howls of outrage from progressives, and since then has acted to restrict puberty blockers, hormones and surgical interventions for minors.”

Who is Joe Biden? It’s hard to say. He epitomizes a politician who goes any way the wind blows. His is a walking, talking caricature.

Should the Catholic Church punish Joe Biden?

It’s safe to say that Biden will tack from the left to the center — at least in his words — as the 2024 presidential election draws near. There are too many voters who bristle against allowing late-term abortions and cutting up kids who have been confused about their gender. But, as the saying goes, “Sayin’ ain’t doin’.”

That’s why DeSantis and Abbott are popular governors. They choose to live in reality rather than a progressive fantasy turned nightmare. They are doing their best to thwart the progressive attempt to undermine the Western way of life.

“Rome fell because of inner weakness, either social or spiritual; or Rome fell because of outer pressure—the barbarian hordes,” Connolly argued. “What we can say with confidence is that Rome fell gradually and that Romans for many decades scarcely noticed what was happening.”

Sound familiar? It should. It seems that too many Americans are stumbling along with Joe Biden. They refuse to reflect on what’s happening around them. They dread self-reflection. When they look in the mirror, they see what they want to see, not what is really there.

St. Patrick, who is being celebrated Friday, played a key role in tending to the light in a time of darkness.

“When Patrick was laying the foundations of the Irish Church,” Connolly wrote, “no one could have foreseen the vital role it would play shortly after his death in preserving the light of faith and learning in the midst of Europe’s dark age.”

St. Patrick was a former Celtic slave brought to Ireland from Roman-era Britain. The church founded by Patrick in Ireland, according to Connolly, “had three distinct characteristics: it was Celtic, monastic, and missionary.”

Connolly drew his evidence primarily from Thomas Cahill’s “How the Irish Saved Western Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland’s Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe.” In the 1995 book, the late historian wrote that Ireland “is unique in religious history for being the only land into which Christianity was introduced without bloodshed.”

“In contrast to the conventional ‘Red Martyrdom’ by blood of many saints, the Irish developed a spirituality of the ‘Green Martyrdom’ of asceticism,” Connolly wrote Thursday. “The Irish Church soon produced an unprecedented number of monks and missionaries.”

Another way of looking at it is that Catholicism blended almost seamlessly with Celtic spirituality. At one time Ireland was naturally devout.

I highly doubt Biden knows anything about Ireland’s role in preserving the light of faith. He doesn’t know much about Catholic teachings, so why would he?

Edwards pointed out one thing about Biden’s commonality with modern-day Ireland. “At least on this topic,” she wrote, “Biden is in touch with his distant Irish roots. In 2015, Ireland passed a Gender Recognition Act almost as extreme as the one that just brought down Nicola Sturgeon.”

The fact that Ireland isn’t at all what it used to be might be a sign that the West is on the verge of collapse. It’s no longer devout. Because of this, it is going against its own nature. As goes Ireland, so goes the West? Let’s hope not.

Biden is playing his part in the decline. As a modern-day Nero, rather than fiddling as Rome burns, the president looks at himself in the mirror and dreams about when he was a truck driver or at the top of his class. The only class that he might be at the top of is deception.

Edwards seems to think so. At the conclusion of her commentary, she wrote, “It’s part of a pattern: he is all talk, and no walk.”

Ain’t that the truth.

Fox News' Greg Gutfeld, right, wondered if Vice President Kamala Harris realized that the main character onthe comedy "Veep," to whom she compared herself, is an abject failure.

Armando Iannucci has made me laugh harder about politics — intentionally, anyhow — than any man I can remember. A Scottish comedy writer, Iannucci is most famous in his native United Kingdom for the “The Thick of It,” a riotously vulgar show which was a barely concealed parody of the behind-the-scenes machinations of Tony Blair’s tenure as prime minister.

There’s barely a memorable quote from the series that can be transcribed in a family publication without a blizzard of asterisks, despite the fact it was commissioned and aired by state broadcaster BBC, but the essential power dynamic is between Machiavellian, throat-grabbing spin wizards and incompetent, ladder-climbing sycophants.

As either member of the brothers Gallagher will tell you, the ultimate goal of any famous Brit is to make it in America. Iannucci succeeded; “The Thick of It” was rebooted on these shores as “Veep,” starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as a combination Machiavellian, throat-grabbing, incompetent, ladder-climbing sycophant who made it into the vice-presidential office.

While its plotline didn’t quite parallel national politics in the same way “The Thick of It” did, it’s worth noting that “Veep” debuted when the veep was Joe Biden. Biden looked infinitely better. Just sayin’.

In the actual series, Louis-Dreyfuss’ character finally ascends to the presidency — but, in the finale, her death is overshadowed by the fact she died on the same day as Tom Hanks, so her passing barely gets a mention in the news broadcasts. God forbid this coincidence happens in this life, but … well, just as life imitates art, perhaps art can predict life. Again: Just sayin’.

I mention all of this not to prepare you for pub trivia in London, but instead to put into perspective why Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld said — not incorrectly — that the woman one heartbeat away from the presidency “sounds like a woman at a bar.”

So, context: Harris appeared on Stephen Colbert’s late-night CBS show, where the topic of “Veep” was broached.

As the New York Post noted, both Colbert and Harris said they admired “Veep.” Well, join the club, but there are three of us and only one of us is veep. One would hope she knows it’s fiction. One would be wrong.

Should Kamala Harris run for president in 2024?

The exchange: “I know you love ‘Veep,'” Harris said.

“I love ‘Veep.’ Is it accurate?” Colbert asked.

“There are bits of it that are actually quite accurate,” Harris said.

As moderator of Fox News’ “The Five,” Jesse Watters noted, “She was the one who brought ‘Veep’ up.”

“Now, everyone disparagingly associates her with ‘Veep’,” Watters said, noting Colbert tried to rescue her and she couldn’t grab the life-preserver.

Greg Gutfeld savaged her for the decision to compare herself to Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’ character, particularly given the age of President Joe Biden and the fight between Harris and California Gov. Gavin Newsom to be next in line.

“To be able to feel drunk all the time without ever drinking — I mean, every time you listen to her, she sounds like a woman at a bar on her fourth skinny margarita,” Gutfeld said, comparing her to an obliviously inebriated woman, apparently given her easy demeanor as she made a huge rhetorical blunder.

But then, the important part: “I was wondering whether she took the comparison to ‘Veep’ as a compliment,” Gutfeld said.

“It’s like she didn’t really understand that the whole show is about a failure.”

I mean, it’s not like people watched the show, or that it’s available online or anything — oh, wait.

WARNING: The following video contains graphic language that some viewers will find offensive.

So, yeah, there’s that.

I cannot emphasize enough that Kamala Harris wasn’t picked for the VP job as a backstop in the event of a catastrophe. That’s usually how things go.

A demonstration, if you don’t believe me: Do you know what the difference between Charles Curtis, Martin Brundle, John Nance Garner, William King and James Sherman is?

Four of them are U.S. vice presidents and one of them is a relatively unsuccessful Formula One driver. If you can tell the difference, you — like me — follow F1.

Regardless, all five were individuals who were much younger than 80 years old, the current age of our commander-in-chief. None was picked because they were a black woman, which the Biden campaign openly advertised was considered necessary for getting the spot. Curtis, Brundle, Nance Garner, King and Sherman should have been so lucky: Four of the five, in this environment, would have had a coin-flip’s chance of becoming president. (Sorry, Martin.)

Instead of being No. 2, however, she’s No. 1b, given the age of the president. This is how seriously she takes the job.

And now, the veep could become “Veep.” I am nowhere near the Iannucci household, but I can’t imagine anyone in the immediate vicinity will hear any laughter.

Joe Exotic, who is known by millions of Americans as the “Tiger King,” is running for president from prison.

The 60-year-old is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence for conspiracy to commit murder, among other crimes. The murder charges were well-documented in the 2020 Netflix series “Tiger King.”

But jail, a fall from grace, an inability to access large exotic animals, and not even his nemesis Carole Baskin can stop the eccentric criminal from a White House bid, he signaled this week online.

Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, officially announced his candidacy in a message on his campaign website.

Maldonado-Passage acknowledged the situation with his living arrangements in the statement but asked voters to consider him next November.

“Thank you for your interest in my Campaign,” the statement said. “Yes, I know I am in Federal Prison and you might think this is a joke but it’s not. It is my Constitutional right to do this even from here.”

He continued by attacking the Department of Justice as a corrupt institution that unfairly targeted him.

“I have been put here only because of the corruption in the Department of Justice, three felons that were told how to lie under oath to further this agenda, two corrupt Assistant U.S. Attorneys, two corrupt FBI Agents and one corrupt Federal Wildlife Agent,” he said.

Maldonado-Passage, who is running as a libertarian, invoked his past behavior and lifestyle and asked people to look past it for a better America.

He also brought up Baskin, whose murder he ordered but was never carried out.

“So put aside that I am gay, that I am in prison for now, that I used drugs in the past, that I had more [than] one boyfriend at once and that Carole hates my guts,” he said.

“This all has not a thing to do with me being able to be your voice. The best thing you have going for supporting me is that I am used to fighting my whole life just to get by,” he added.

As far as policy goes, Maldonado-Passage intends to run on a message of shutting down the IRS and demanding accountability for how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars overseas.

“I am here because I have a world platform to make these politicians listen to your and my concerns and give us some answers for once because all they do is lie to all of us, take our hard earned money calling it taxes, and give it away to foreign countries without them giving us anything back,” his announcement said.

Maldonado-Passage concluded, “I am broke, they have taken everything I ever worked for away, and it’s time we take this country back.”

The 60-year-old is confined to the Federal Medical Center at Butner prison in Durham County, North Carolina, The Oklahoman reported.

The former Oklahoma zookeeper was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021.

A high school state track meet in Massachusetts is once again shining a light on the war on women’s sports, which is taking place as boys are allowed to compete as girls.

According to Breitbart, in January of this year, a high school junior who calls himself “Chloe” Barnes and identifies as a female, helped propel Brookline High School’s girls’ track team to victory in the 4 x 200 meter relay at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Northeast Invitational.

Barnes managed to run in 1:50.43, and the video shows him easily outpacing the girls that he was racing against.

Brookline’s school newspaper “The Cypress” spoke about how Barnes, as a sophomore, arranged to train with the girls’ team but to compete with the boys as he feared that people would raise eyebrows if he competed against girls.

But, by the time he was a junior, he felt confident enough to officially join the girls’ team and to compete with them at meets.

Naturally, many people are angry and feel that girls were robbed of the chance to accomplish something because a boy chose to compete against them. Olympian Andy Turner wrote on Twitter, “Simply cheating!! This should not be allowed.”

Fellow Olympian Sharron Davies agreed, saying, “This is cheating.”

But Barnes is not listening to those who oppose him competing as a girl. His response to them is simply, “Deal with it. Just deal with it,” Breitbart reported.

Seriously? Are young girls seriously supposed to “just deal with” the fact that in the name of woke transgender ideology, they are losing out opportunities to men pretending to be women?

This is not the only example of this that we have seen recently. Last year, Lia Thomas, a male, competed as a woman on the University of Pennsylvania swimming team and absolutely crushed the competition.

This is also, not only about ensuring the integrity of sports, but also the safety of female athletes. Imagine how uncomfortable many of them feel having to share a locker room with someone who is very obviously a boy.

Frankly, Barnes is giving a very tone-deaf response to the genuine concerns of girls and their parents, who fear that the hard work that they have put into their sports will be wiped out to satisfy someone’s fantasies.

Should boys be banned from girls’ sports?

So, no, they are not supposed to just “deal with it.” They have a right to make their concerns known and have them adequately taken into consideration.

This transgender madness has gone on for far too long, and the examples of Barnes and Thomas show that there are people who suffer as a result of these delusions.

Like everything else that gets destroyed by toxic wokeness, viewership for the Oscars has cratered over the past decade as the awards show became more political, nasty and openly left-wing.

This year’s ratings were no different. Sunday’s broadcast of the Academy Awards, which was hosted by left-wing comedian Jimmy Kimmel, garnered a middling 18.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

While this year’s audience rose 12 percent from the abysmal 16.6 million viewers the show got in 2022, the ratings are overall mediocre compared to past years, when they regularly topped 30 million.

To put it in perspective, this year’s broadcast was the third-lowest in Oscars history.

Here’s a look at the show’s viewership over the past decade, according to Statista:

  • 2013: 40.3 million
  • 2014: 43.7 million
  • 2015: 36.6 million
  • 2016: 34.3 million
  • 2017: 32.9 million
  • 2018: 26.5 million
  • 2019: 29.6 million
  • 2020: 23.6 million
  • 2021: 9.8 million
  • 2022: 16.6 million
  • 2023: 18.8 million.

It’s possible that this year’s telecast outperformed last year’s simply because many people were curious to see if another entitled celebrity would have a meltdown like actor Will Smith did in 2022, when he slapped presenter Chris Rock on stage over a benign joke.

Host Jimmy Kimmel’s performance was vacuous and uninspired, as he took a predictable dig at Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s game-changing move to air raw footage of the Jan. 6 Capitol incursion.

In the days preceding this year’s telecast, Kimmel was mocked on Twitter for his distasteful history of inappropriate jokes that any conservative would be immediately destroyed over.

Many of us who used to watch the Oscars every year began boycotting it in 2017, when the show took an extreme turn to the left and began viciously attacking then-President Donald Trump, along with numerous other conservatives.

Even the liberal New York Times admitted that the toxic injection of left-wing politics has alienated viewers.

“Increasingly, the ceremonies are less about entertainment honors and more about progressive politics, which inevitably annoys those in the audience who disagree,” according to a 2021 Times story.

Did you watch the Oscars?

“One recent producer of the Oscars, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential metrics, said minute-by-minute post-show ratings analysis indicated that ‘vast swaths’ of people turned off their televisions when celebrities started to opine on politics.”

So the pithy observation seems to ring true: Get woke, go broke.
