Person struck by Amtrak train and killed in Waterbury

A person was struck by a northbound Amtrak train Friday night in Waterbury, according to the Vermont State Police. The victim was found deceased near the Waterbury-Stowe Amtrak station. 

Police did not immediately release the name of the victim, pending notification of family. 

In a press release issued early Saturday morning, police said they received a report of a person struck by a passenger train shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. No passengers or train employees were injured.

Vermont State Police are investigating the incident, according to the release, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
